2-car accident leaves 1 dead in Michigan

A tragic two-car accident is being investigated by the Michigan State Police after it left one person dead in Bruce Township.

The officers who initially responded were from the Metro North Post, and they got the call about the crash right around 4:35 in the afternoon on a Wednesday in early February. The wreck was near 34 Mile and Van Dyke Avenue. The vehicles involved were actually fairly similar, a pair of mid-sized SUVs. One was a 2004 Chevrolet TrailBlazer and the other was a 2000 Chevy Blazer.

According to reports -- though the investigation is still ongoing and new information could come to light -- it appears that the TrailBlazer was on Van Dyke, going north, when it drifted over the center line and into oncoming traffic. The road was curving east, and police said that the head-on crash happened right at that curve -- perhaps indicating that the Trailblazer simply continued going straight as the road turned in front of the car, putting it in the path of the Blazer.

The driver of the Trailblazer was injured in the wreck. Those injuries were described as non-life-threatening, though the driver did wind up in the hospital.

The 57-year-old woman in the Blazer, though, was killed in the crash. Authorities announced that she'd passed away at the scene. She was from Imlay City.

Again, this is an ongoing case, but the police do not think at this time that either driver had been drinking alcohol.

Losing a loved one in a car accident is sudden and heart-wrenching, something no one ever really expects or prepares for. If this happens to you, remember that you may be able to seek compensation, which can help with funeral costs, medical bills, lost income, and more during this difficult time.
