A 21-year-old woman in Detroit, Michigan, was killed in a freak car accident reportedly caused by a reckless, speeding driver.
According to police, a 37-year-old man was behind the wheel of a Chevy Camaro, breaking the speed limit, when he slammed into a curb. The impact threw the small sports car into the air.
In front of him, the young woman was with her boyfriend in a Chevy Malibu. They were parked. They both had their sisters with them, and those sisters were sharing the back seat while the couple sat in the front seats.
The airborne Camaro came down on top of the Malibu, killing the woman and her boyfriend. The two sisters in the back seat survived, but they were both hurt. The young man's sister is still in the hospital, as of the latest reports. The same is true of the driver of the Camaro, who was injured in the wreck.
The grandfather of the woman who was killed called her smart, beautiful and ethical. He said that she would have advocated forgiving the other driver. However, he also noted that they wanted to prosecute that driver "to the fullest extent of the law."
According to neighbors, the man driving the sports car had often sped while going up and down that road. Now that he caused a deadly accident, they felt angry about all of the risks they allege he took.
A reckless driver can change the lives of multiple families in mere seconds. When this type of careless negligence results in the loss of life, high medical bills, lost wages, funeral costs and more, family members need to know if they have a legal right to compensation.
