Truck accident in Oakland County may have involved lack of sleep

Michigan is home to plenty of equestrians, bicyclists and even dog sledders, but there is no more popular way to get around than by motor vehicle. The Wolverine State was also instrumental in the development of cars and trucks, giving Detroit and other cities a sense of extra pride for their rides.

Unfortunately, the popularity of motor vehicles also brings the hazards of collisions. Many types of collisions spike at various times of the week or the year, like rush hours on Fridays and Sundays or the common motorcycle craze in the spring months. And various types of motor vehicles pose different threats to the people inside it and around it.

One mistake that must always be avoided by drivers is falling asleep at the wheel. This is most common with professional drivers, who often feel pressure to spend long periods of time on the road without appropriate breaks. One recent multi-vehicle accident in Rochester Hills may have involved this issue.

Oakland County authorities reported at least six vehicles, including a tractor-trailer, were involved in a collision on M-59. Initial images showed many of the cars wedged between the semi and the guard rail after the truck moved to the right.

The local sheriff reported there were several injuries, but fortunately, no fatalities initially. The office is investigating the possibility that the truck driver fell asleep at the wheel.

Victims of motor vehicle accidents in which another driver was responsible may be eligible to claim financial damages in civil court. An attorney can help point out the best ways to seek reimbursement for medical expenses or compensation for economic or emotional distress.
